The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute has recently received significant funding to expand the ENCyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) project, which in its pilot phase yielded provocative new insights into the organisation and functional elements within the human genome. As a result we are currently looking to recruit a Senior Computer Biologist to start as soon as possible within the HAVANA team.

Based in the laboratory of Dr. Casey Bergman (Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Manchester, we seek a capable and enthusiastic computational biologist to study the evolution of gene expression in Drosophila as part of a HFSP-funded project in collaboration with Dr. Uwe Ohler (Duke University, Durham, USA) and Dr Pavel Tomancak (Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, Dresden, DE). This project will involve the analysis of genome-wide sequence and expression data within and among species of Drosophila to gain insight into the evolutionary forces that control changes in transcriptional regulation across developmental stages.

We are seeking a molecular biologist/computational scientist/scientific trainer for the position of Field Application Scientist & Account Manager in Europe.

We are looking for someone to extend and establish the generality of the concept extraction methods from scanned literature developed by Lu et al (2008) , targeting the biodiversity domain. The applicant will have at least a functional understanding of image analysis (feature extraction), document layout (reverse-engineering a DTD), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and a broad familiarity with taxonomic systems relating to biodiversity (for concept relationships). Ideally you will have expertise in one or more of these areas and the ability to learn quickly is essential.
